Dick Wellons is the Director for Smoky Mountain Area Rescue Ministries. He was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. He is married and has five children - four sons and one daughter. He also has four grandchildren varying in ages from 8 to 19. He and his wife are members of First Baptist Church of Pigeon Forge.
Dick grew up in a Christian home and accepted the Lord as his Savior in September 1950. Growing up, Dick was active in Sunday School, BTU and RA’s. He became Church Training director at the young age of 19 and taught a children’s Sunday School class. At the age of 21, Dick was ordained a deacon and taught a Young People’s Sunday School Class and later became the church’s Sunday School Director.
Dick was elected as president of the Baptist Men’s group and also served as the president and associational director of the Tampa Bay Baptist Men. He has also served as Deacon chairman and was a member of Associational Board of Missions and State Board of Missions.
Dick and his entire family moved to East Tennessee in 1983. He owned his own insurance agency prior to being called to serve as Director of Smoky Mountain Area Rescue Ministries in October 2001.
